Pink Persimmon's NEW RELEASE "Bluebird Buttons" !!!

!

Hello friends.  I'm back again today with another project using one of Pink Persimmon's new release stamp sets.  Let me start out by thanking Darcy and Judy at Pink Persimmon for the opportunity to design with their wonderful vintage images!

Today's project features "Bluebird Buttons".  You may be thinking why buttons in the title.  That's because Pink Persimmon has a fun line of Artist Trading Card sized (2.5" x 3.5") images that were created to look like vintage pearl button cards!  I do not sew, well except on paper, teehee.  So I don't know a lot about vintage sewing images and had no idea that there were these fabulous artistic button cards in the past, so I decided to do a little research.  I found out that the the pearl buttons were actually made from clam shells collected by clammers.  Just in case your interested HERE is a link that explains the history a little better.

You can check out all Pink Persimmons button card images, Baby Pearls, Mermaid Pearls, Men's Buttons, and Happy Girl HERE.

Back to today's project .... as soon as I seen this image I thought how much fun it would be to create a little window / shadow box with it, where you would normally put the buttons.  You can see the pearl hanger at the top, so I can hang it on the wall.  At first I was going to make a little paper box to adhere to the back of the image.  But then as I was walking through a local craft store I realized I could glue the lid of one of those mini paper mache boxes on the back would be a lot faster!    I stamped the image on water color paper and used water color

I'm hoping you can see the depth of the window in this close-up.  I found this bird nest chipboard embellishment by K&Company and Michaels.  It fit in there perfectly.  Then I added a little raffia and some roses.  That's lace in the background.  Then I dug REALLY deep from my stash.  I totally forgot I had these old metal words by Making Memories.  I covered the metal in gesso and then brown paint.

Other supplies : the embossing template is by Cuttlebug and it's from the Anna Griffin line -  Joann's, music paper is from Hobby Lobby (8 1/2 x 11 section), metal decorative corners (I rubbed cream paint over the top of them) - Michaels.

and my FAVORITE pair of decorative scissors are at Joann's now!!!  I have looked for them locally for so long.  The local craft stores carried lots of the Fiskars decorative scissors, but never the deckled.  A sweet friend of mine gave me hers last spring because I had used mine so much they were broken (thank you Melayne!).  So when I seen them at Joann's last month I was really happy and picked up 2 pair!!  Sometimes it's the little things that bring us happiness, teehee.

What do you think?  I have to say ... I'm not always crazy about all my projects ... but I really love how this one turned out!

Thank you sooooo much for stopping by!!
hugs, Melisa

Check out Pink Persimmon's NEW CHRISTMAS STAMPS!

I'm sooooo excited to share that not only does Pink Persimmon have a new online store that is fabulous .... but they have started releasing some of the new images.  I am so blessed to get to work with them and I can't wait to show all the new projects I've designed.  THANK YOU Darcy and Judy!

Today I'm sharing a project designed using Christmas House.  Hop over and check it out ... it comes with the cutest little carriage image as well.  Today's post is a Holiday Shadow Box Home Decor project with a step by step tutorial for you.

CREATING THE SHADOW BOX

Trim cream cardstock 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".  Score 1/4" and 1/2" from edge of each side as shown by dotted lines.

Trim each corner as shown above.

Fold along score lines as shown.

Adhere flaps together.

***************************************************************

CREATING THE STAMPED PANEL

Next you need to stamp and paper piece the image panel to fit inside the shadow box window.

In the photo above I mask the stars with masking tape because I didn't want to stamp them in green and my stamp pad was so large that there was no way I could stamp the tree's green and stars yellow without over lapping.  If you choose to use markers, then you can color them separately and stamp them at the same time.

Stamp Panel #1 with the image in green on cream cardstock 3 3/8" x 3 3/8".
Stamp the image again in brown and red on smaller pieces of cardstock, as shown above.
Stamp image on masking tape as well.  I use Eclipse Masking Tape.

Trim mask and cover image on Panel #1 (the one with the green tree's).
Lightly and randomly apply brown ink to a script background stamp image.  Another way to do is to apply the brown ink heavy then stamp it off on a piece of scrap paper then immediately stamp on Panel #1.  It's not shown in the photo below ... but do the same thing to the "hill" as well.

Remove mask.  I did this one for the tutorial quickly.  I don't like how this one turned out,  See the gap between the trees and brown ink???  It's way to big and would have re-done this one if I were using it.  But you get the idea.

I actually forgot this step on mine so it's not in the photo above.  Now would be a could time to ink the stars with gold ink and stamp on to Panel #1.  Since I forgot I had to stamp mine separately, trim them and then adhere.  Trust me you don't want to do it that way.

Trim the house and hill as shown.

Paper piece the 3.  Use pop dots to layer the house and hill over Panel #1.  Ink edges with brown ink.  Use chalk or a Dove Blender Pen to color in Trees.  The Dove Blender is great because you can use the ink you stamped the tree's with and because it's "water downed" with whatever they put in it ... it's a little lighter.  Just pick up a little ink on the pen and rub in on.  The sample below is with chalk.  See how it doesn't match that well.  I actually ended up re-doing it after I snapped that photo and used the Dove Blender on the sample at the top.  I have Dove Blender Pen's for each color .... green, red, yellow, blue, pink, etc.   LOVE them.

Mount Panel #1 on red patterned paper.  Adhere inside shadow box.
Trim a piece of green patterned paper 6" x 6".  Trim a window out of the center of the green panel.  You want to be slightly smaller than the inside of the shadow box opening so that the cream doesn't show.  The inside of your shadow box should be 4" x 4" ... so trim the window from the green patterned paper about 3 7/8" x 3 7/8".  Ink the edges.  Adhere the shadow box to the back of the green patterned paper.  Wrap the top with cream ribbon.  Use a border punch to create a decorative border from red patterned paper and adhere around outside of edge.   Embellish.  Stamp sentiment, trim and adhere.

The last step is to adhere the shadow box to one of those little wooden easels you can get at the local craft stores in the art section.  You can see the feet of mine sticking out a little with the first photo.  Looking at it now I think I need to go back and paint those feet cream.

Hope this little tutorial inspires you to create a little home decor project of your own!

big hugs!
Melisa

Video Tutorial - Valentine Banner

Hello paper crafters!  Today I'm sharing a video tutorial on how to create this vintage style valentine banner.   I will be teaching you how to create the letters for the banner using a mirrow image on your computer.  You will also learn how to create the rosettes and everything else you need to know to create a valentine banner of your own!

I

I hope you like the video.  I'm still REALLY frustrated with learning how to edit.  I did the video once and then accidently erased it  : (  .  But I'm not going to give up.  I did learn a few new things this time .... like how easy it is to post the video on my blog.  I have another valentine project in the works to share with you soon.  It will be an altered heart shaped paper mache box.  I've also been working on my valentine ATC's.  Thanks so much for all your support and for checking out the video!

Have a great day!

Be still and know that I am God

Hello Papercrafters.  Recently I had the pleasure of creating a project for Faith Art Friday over at the Layers of Color blog.  The verse I selected to focus on is "Be still, and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10.
I wrote this over  a week or so ago, and had no idea how quickly my life would change and how I would need to be reminded of this as well.  We have had some family issues that have been very upsetting this week.   So after a momentary emotional break down, I drew near to God, knowing that it was the only way I could have peace regarding this problem.  Believing that my God loves me and will be with me no matter how difficult life becomes.  I hope that this is a verse that you can fall back on as well when times of trouble come in your life.  If you are in the mist of troubled times as we speak, please email me,  I would love to pray for you.

While this verse was written in reference to a time of war as the Kingdom of David was being established, it is applicable to our everyday lives as well. To “be still” means to cause yourself to let go or become weak. So that He can work. In the face of life problems, how many of us try to “fix it” ourselves, without taking the time to go to God in prayer first. I know that I have. Many of us want to be in control of our lives and work hard at manipulating things to obtain the outcomes we desire. But by doing so, we prevent God from working in our lives, and receiving the honor and glory He desires.
Have you ever wondered how you would respond in the face of tragedy as a Christian? I have. In my life I have not had to deal with the fear, loss, pain and suffering that many have … and I wonder if my response would be one that would bring honor and glory to my God. Events of this past month around the world have broken my heart to hear about, and made me pause and wonder how I would have responded in these circumstances.
Sometimes we need to get out of Gods’ way. Let Him work. How do we do this? By knowing who He is. How do we reach a point in our spiritual growth that we can “be still” in the face of tragedy? By knowing who He is. How do we deal with the grief of loosing a child or loved one? By knowing who He is. How do we obtain peace in a time where others are falling apart? By knowing who He is.
How do we know who He is?? By knowing His history, His word, His promises. This knowledge gives us everything we need to face what life will bring us and an assurance that our God is in control, and if we get out of His way, He will do the work.  Then what will be left for us to do??   … the easy part … singing His praises!

Project Details
This one is another piece of corrugated cardboard art.  I really LOVE working with this stuff.  The idea for this one was to create a project large enough to have framed and hang on a wall.  This project is 9 1/2" x 12"  and doesn't look so dark in real life.
My bedroom is in green and brown so this will be perfect to frame and hang in there.  Thankfully DH gave me the thumbs up!  He doesn't usually ooh and ahhh over my projects, but he did on this one.

I already had the center panel completed.  This is a result of sitting down one day and spraying Glimmer Mist and adding ink to a pile of panels for future use.  I used Gothic Crosses from Layers of Colors.  I LOVE this set!  I used Eclipse Masking Tape to layer the images.  If you are not familiar with masking then scroll down to the bottom of post for instructions.  The verse is a digital image by Nina Brackett from SquiggleflySpellbinders die - Labels Five
I began with my corrugated cardboard, tearing away pieces of the top layer to expose the ripples underneath.  I layed the right lower corner and left upper corner torn patterned paper and center panel over it to help me decide where to tear and balance it.  I never know which direction I will go and just continue to add and layer things until I get a look I like.  Don't be afraid to just start slapping it on.  It's just a peice of cardboard, and it is so easy to start all over again if you don't like it.  Usually there is some type of patterned paper barely peeking through, because my original intention is to have it on the project, but by the time I'm done, it has been mostly covered.  Take a look at the left upper corner and you can see some music notes peeking through.

After tearing away some of the top layer, I add acrylic pain
t.  Usually 2-3 colors.  I already had the brown to accentuate the inside of the ripples, so I mostly added white and a tan colors along the top, as well as some green Glimmer Mist here and there.  Next I added white crackle paste with a palette knife. Not as much as usual, but you can see it allong the edges.  Remember the thicker the crackle paste, the larger the cracks.  I found a new crackle paste because those little bottles by Ranger can get pricey, and I wanted something more readily available since I love using it.  Mine is by DecoArt and can be found at Micheals.  It comes is a 10oz container versus the little 1oz by Ranger.

I wanted to add more texture and I had picked up some doilies at a local antique store recently.  I LOVE lace, so what better way to enjoy it than to include it on a wall project!   The rest is pretty easy to create looking at the photo's.

I hope this little tutorial inspires you to create some of your own backgrounds.  If you do, shoot me an email.  I would love to check it out.
I hope you have a crafty day!

Masking Tutorial

If you are new to stamping, you may not know what masking is.  It is simple the covering up of an area the you want to stamp over, but only want the image to appear around the masked image.  So in this case I stamped the center portion of the cross first onto my project.  Then stamping it again onto another piece of paper.  Cut the second one out creating a mask to cover up the image on your project.  I use Eclipse Masking tape because it is lightly sticky (like a post it note) on the back.  Sometimes Post-it notes will work.  But only a small portion is sticky.  Post-it notes are pretty expensive, to I looked at the Eclipse tape as an investment long term.  It has lasted me a long time and I love that it stays put while I"m stamping over it with the second image.

Lay your mask over the same image on your project.  Now stamp the background image over it.

And that's how you get that great layered look!

This is just one technique for masking.  It is used with brayering as well.  And I'm sure other ways I am not even aware of.  I have tried masking fluid and didn't like it.

Fall Centerpiece and Cards!

Hello papercrafters.  Today I am sharing some of my older projects that I have never shared on this blog before.  These were posted on my TAC blog at some point.  But the idea's are timeless.  So I hope you will be inspired to create your own Fall home decor and tableware this year!

This was created pre-copic markers.  I think at some point I want to redo the images with copic markers and update my centerpiece.  All of the stamps used were from The Angel Company.  These sets are discontinued.  But if you want to use these exact images to create your own centerpiece, let me know and I will drop you some in the mail.

Here are a couple of cards I created using a couple of the A2 Circle Window cards from Creative Cuts and More.  These were pretty easy to put together using some of the Jolee's fall stickers.

Isn't the sign hanging in the window just perfect!
I'm linking this one to My Time to Craft Challenge Blog - Quick and Cute

I added the a Scalloped Circle Frame, Filigree Rectangle Label, and a couple of leaves from the Leaves #03 Mini-set

The DP is TPC Studio from a local craft store.

Altered Bird Cage Home Decor

Good Morning Papercrafters.  Today I am thrilled to have participated in the Stampin' Sisters for Christ Challenge.  I just love this challenge blog and wish I had time to play along more often.  These ladies are so very special in what they do on their challenge blog.  Each Sunday they provide a bible verse to inspire us!  In addition they have wonderful sponsors each week and this week the sponsor is Layers of Color!
Today's verse is ...
Matthew 6: 9-13 "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
And the challenge is ...
Make a card/project that features prayer; either someone praying, or a verse about prayer, or a greeting that lets someone know you are praying for them.
I had so much fun with this project.  My guest bedroom (when we get our new house in the spring, is going to be shabby chic).  I have already bought the bed linens and I want to fill the room with shabby pieces of art.  So here is another project for that room ...

I had so much fun creating this one.

1. Spray metal birdcage with white spray paint.  After this is dry, apply crackle paint.
2. Embellish with pearl trim (Hobby Lobby).
3. Add a branch (purchased in the floral department at Hobby Lobby) to the inside of the cage.  To make it look more realistic paint it brown and add brown crackle paint.
4. Add floral embellishment to outside of cage (Prima).
5. Stamp butterfly images, color, and trim. Apply black glitter with a glue pen.
6. Adhere to outside of cage.
7. Type bible verse and print.  Trim to a banner.

Aren't these butterfly images gorgeous??  They are from a Layers of Color set called "Flutterescent"!

You can view all of my Altered Projects HERE

Don't forget to hop over and play along with Stampin' Sisters for Christ this week!!

Have a blessed Sunday!

First Annual "March of the Snowmen" Blog Hop

Hi everyone!  I'm so excited to introduce to you the first annual "March of the Snowmen" Blog Hop!  I love snowmen images and so do all the other designers participating in this blog hop.  This talented group of ladies has planned some sensational snow flurried projects for you.  So before I list my own mini march of snowmen projects let me introduce you to our designers!  Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of my post before you start hopping though, because I'm giving away TWO blog candy packages!!  And check out each designers blogs carefully for MORE blog candy announcements!

Melisa Waldorf - You are here now

Snowman Project #1 was designed using a vintage FREE digi download from a challenge blog : Digital for Tuesday Challenge Blog.  They post a FREE vintage digi image each tuesday for you to design with.  The blog is sponsored by Clearly Vintage.  The owner sales vintage stamp sets that are wonderful.  So I wanted to take a minute to share this wonderful find with all my vintage lovin' friends.  I also designed this project for another challenge blog : Sunday Postcard Art.  When I can I have been playing along with challenge blogs for inchies, ATC's, collage, mixed media recently.

A postcard is 4" x 6".  I started with a piece of cardboard, tore away some of the surface to reveal the "ripples".  I layered on Weathered Wood Crackle Paint, then Sky Making Memories Acrylic Paint and lastly Picket Fence Crackle Paint.  I colored my image with Prismacolor pencils and OMS.  I add Shimmerz.  My "snow" is liquid applique.  I love that stuff!  I add a little white fun flock around the brim of the girls hat and Stampendous Prisma glitter to feather and ball on tip of girls hat.  All the other embellishments are things I picked up in the Christmas section of a local arts and crafts store.

Snowman Project #2 was created using a wonderful vintage cut out by Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage line of products.  I'm gonna be giving this one away at a Cookie Swap tomorrow night that is held annually by some of my Scrapbooking buddies here in town.

Snowman Project #3 was created using "Gifts of Love" by FireCracker Designs by Pamela.  You can check this set out HERE.  I love Martha Stewarts Snowflake border punch!  Perfect for you winter cards.

Snowman Project #4 features "Snowman Nativity" by The Angel Company.  I created my own watercolor background for this one, then stamped and embossed the snowflakes creating my own DP.  This is a Score-pal card, Cami card.  You can find the directions on the Scor-pal site.  If you are interested in ordering this set online from a TAC demo, let me know.  I can hook you up!  I'm hoping one of the designers in the hop show cases "Merriest Wishes".  It is one of the cutest snowman sets I have EVER seen!

The window creates a great card!

Here is another project using "Snowman Nativity" for Project #5.  I loved these little guys soooo much, I couldn't help creating a home decor project so I could sit them out on a table and enjoy them.  I used old wood stamp blocks as my base.
