Layers of Color Bookmarks

Good Morning.  Today I have 2 bookmarks to share with you designed using Layers of Color stamps (Artful EndearmentsEncouragement and Merci Bouquet).  I was so tempted to add glitter and embellishments, but I wanted them to be as flat as possible since they are bookmarks.  Today is Faith Art Friday over on the Layers of Color blog and I know they will have something special to share and encourage you!

What are you working on this week??  I had a lot of fun designing a watercolor class this week.  I will be sharing one of the cards with you on Sunday, with a step by step photo tutorial.  Each card has soooo many photo's I figured it would be better to share them one at a time.  Have you ever worked with watercolors?

I am looking forward to this saturday, because I'm spending the day with one of my SASSSC (Sassy) Sisters, Deb!  We are going on a trip to 2 of our local scrapbook stores, and then coming back to my house to get crafty.  I hope you are able to find time for some crafty fun this weekend!

And .....  I will be making a big announcement on Saturday!

If you have not done so .... please "like" the Layers of Color Company FB page.  When it hits the 300 mark, Laura is giving away a free stamp set!

Happy Friday!

Mixed Media Tutorial / Tag

Hello Papercrafters.  I had some questions about how I created the tags I posted last friday.  So I decided to create another one and take step by step photo's.  I created this one using the cutest little tree stamp set by The Stamps of Life.  I have to say thank you very much because I won it by playing along with one of the CPS challenges a while back!  Stephanie, the owner let me pick out the set I wanted!  THANKS Stephanie!
You can check out The Stamps of Life HERE.

Supplies
Green and Yellow ink
Yellow, blue and green acrylic paint
tag
charcoal pencil
old book or music paper

Project Details

Start by cutting a peice of old book or music paper slightly smaller than a tag.  The acrylic paints I use are really thick, so I added a little water to them in a dish to make them a little easier to smear around.  Paint yellow onto the word paper and blue onto the tag.  After the yellow is dry, brush on some blue paint.  Allow paint to dry between all steps.

Smear on some green paint.

Using a fan brush lightly wisp on more yellow.  Are you getting the picture now.  It's so easy, you just keep layering paint until you get the look you want.

Adhere book paper to front of blue painted tag.  Smear on a little yellow paint around the edges here and there.  In this photo you can tell I lightly added more green with the fan brush.  Don't be afraid to use your fingers to smear it around as well.  Once I had decided what stamp I wanted to use (the tree), I decided to add more blue, so that the leaves would stand out a little more.  Used my finger on that one.  Outline with a charcoal pencil and draw on your scallops.  Distress edges with black ink here and there.

Paint inside the scallop green.  Add  Stamp the tree image and both birds.  Paint some old book paper yellow and then stamp the birds again, trim the bodies and adhere to tag as shown.  Stamp yellow and green leaves.  Doodle around the edges with fine tip pen - Micron 005, cut, and adhere around tree branches.  Add ribbon at top.

You can check out the other 2 Bookmarks I created using this technique HERE.

If you are inspired to create a distressed painted background of your own or a book mark, let me know.  I would love to check it out.
I hope your week is a tree-mendously wonderful one!

Faith Art Friday

Hello Papercrafters.  Today I am sharing my Faith Art Friday project created for the Layers of Color blog.  I decided to turn tags into bookmarks and share a poem.

Our God does not faint

Nor grows weary each day
There's no searching His understanding
Or knowing His infinite ways
He gives power to the faint
Increasing their strength and might
For even the young lie exhausted
And grow weary in their lives
But those that wait upon the Lord
He shall strengthen and renew
They shall mount up close to God
And soar as eagles do
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not grow weak
They shall be changed and renewed
As their God they humbly seek

I don't know what some of you may be going through today.  I hope that if you are struggling, you will be encouraged by God's word and know that no matter what you are going through, He is there for you and will sustain His children.
And I can not leave you without sharing the inspiration for these book marks.  I follow a mixed media blog called "Paper and Gluestix" by Amy Nieman.  And each time I open her post in my email, I can't help but smile.  I especially love here "pet" ATC's that she creates with her own little pup.  I recently got the opportunity to swap with her, and the ATC's below are what I recieved!  They were the inspiration for my bookmarks.  Amy also has a Flickr gallery as well HERE.

I'm am off to try and pick out more paint and move some things to the new house!  I hope you all have a blessed weekend.
hug,
Melisa
