Sweet 'n Sassy "Flowers in Bloom"

Hello stampers.  Today I'm sharing a card created using Sweet 'n Sassy "Flowers in Bloom".  Love those flowers!  And I love that sentiment.  I hope you are all having a fabulous week so far.

I'm excited because tomorrow is the day I meet with my painting group.  I'm working on an oil painting.  Still haven't actually done a canvas yet.  I just feel like I want to get better at it before I actually do a canvas.  So I'm still practicing.  I have to say learning to oil    paint is one of the hardest crafty activities I've ever tried.  I haven't really worked on it the last year like I had intended when I started this journey.  But last month I started going back to my wednesday group and that's keeping me on track with at least working on something once a week.  Maybe I will have the courage to share with you some day.

I have been working on some Faith art this week which was inspired by taking Stephanie Ackerman's Class.          We are supposed to create 1 a week.  I will share mine 4 at a time, once monthly.  2 down, 2 to go!  I also have a card set to share that shows creative ways to use paint on your cards.  So be looking for that one as well.

Have a blessed day!!
hugs, Melisa

GinaK Designs - "Springtime Silhouettes"

GinaK's Springtime Silhouettes has 9 different silhouette images in it.  So easy to stamp and no coloring necessary.   It also comes with 11 different sentiments that cover a wide range of themes.  So this one set, goes a long way.  Sentiments for friendship, birthday, encouragement, I'm sorry, and get well are just a few.  I have 2 more cards using this set in the works and can't wait to share more idea's for this one!

I kept this one clean and simple.  White space is hard for me, but I like how this one turned out.    I used up some really old ribbon and cardboard buttons from my stash.  That's always a good thing.  I used Spellbinders Labels Four.
I would like to invite you to join me tomorrow for the Sweet N Sassy blog hop.  Lots of chances to win free stamps!

Thanks for stopping by!

Purple Pansies

Hello friends.  I hope you are all doing well.  Today I am sharing a card with using an image you can find in the following Mark's Finest Papers stamp sets, "Spring Flowers", "Today, Tomorrow, and Always", and "Nature's Pansies".  These flowers immediately made me think of my grandmother who used to grow African Violets.  Probably because I couldn't remember the difference between a pansy and an African Violet, ha.  I don't remember a lot about her.  Isn't it amazing how images and music can wake up a memory that has been long forgotten.
Hope all is well for you!!

Shabbalicious!

Good Morning!  Today I have some Shabby Chic inspiration for you using some of my favorite things, glitter, lace and doily's.  By the way ...  I have to mention my new doily die ...  it is AMAZING!  And now I can cut doily's any color I want!  I have't had time to use it yet.  It's by Cheery Lynn and you can check it out HERE.    Ordered mine from Frantic Stamper.  Their store is not easy to navigate, but she has sooooo much stuff.  I was having a problem finding somewhere that carried ink pad refills, copic refills, stamp storage sheets all at the same store.  So when I need basics like that it's easier to order from one place and I usually throw in a couple of extra's, like this die as well.  There is no online ordering.  I email mine, but calling is an option as well.  You can give them your payment info over the phone or have them send you the bill via paypal.

Ok, back to the projects.  This is a matching set (obviously).  But the one above is a tag with one of those glassine bags glued to the front.  And there is another little tag that pulls out of it.  I think is perfect for a gift card holder.  I really love the Vintage Postcard using on the card.  Even though it has christmas themed script on it, you can easily use it for other themes as well!

Sorry I didn't have time to share step by step instructions this time.  But here is a supply list and I think it's self explanatory on how I assembled it.

Have a blessed day!
hugs, Melisa

Artist Trading Card / Faith Art

(artist trading card 2.5" x 3.5")

Good morning paper crafters.  I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day and are not too stuffed.  We had a wonderful day and I had fun trying some new recipes this year.  Today I will be relaxing and putting up some christmas decorations.  No black friday shopping for me.  I don't like crowds and univited people in my personal space.  Thus I avoid fairs, concerts, and Walmart for the entire month of december, teehee.

Today I am doing the Faith Art Friday post over on the Layers of Color blog.  I hope that you will check it out every friday.  Here's my post :

"Isn’t it wonderful how we can see and experience God all around us!  The last few months  have been heartbreaking for me because someone who is dear to me, and had been a follower of Christ, shared that he no longer believed there was a God.   This person is very scientific and believes that there is no evidence that there is a God and that He created this wonderful world that we live in.  I was deeply saddened knowing the consequences of our unbelief.  It’s difficult for me to understand how some people can NOT see the evidence, it’s all around us.
The whole earth is full of His glory!  Isaiah 6:3

I am so thankful that I can see, and for all the beauty that God surrounds us with.  I am so thankful for a loving God who gave so much for me that I might have eternal life.  It’s a free gift to anyone who wants to receive it, to anyone who can see the evidence of God all around them"
If you would like to know more about what I am talking about, just email me at luv_2_stamp@yahoo.com

Hugs, Melisa

Stamps : Touch of Elegance, and Dotted Peonies art stamp sets.
Copic Markers : RV10, RV34, RV19, YG61, G21, G24
Spellbinders : Nestibilities Labels Two and the Grand Calibur

The background was created using the circular image from the "Touch of Elegance" art stamp set. It's difficult to see. But I stamped the image with VersaMark ink and then embossed with white embossing powder on 140# cold press water color paper. This works as a resist. Next I rub the orange paint over the entire card, let is set for a minute and then used a damp paper towel to rub some of the paint off, exposing the embossed images. It gives you this cool distressed look. Next I rubbed hot pink paint around the edges to distress it even more.

Gotta share!!!  I'm so excited ...  I just figured out how to find the code for the font color I want online and then change it in the HTML here!!!  Whoowhoo!  I like to make my links a different color but I want it to match my art.  I have no idea why Blogger doesn't offer more colors for us computer illiterit folks.  My children will be so proud of me.

2 more sneak peaks and a tea-rrific invitation!

Hi Paper Crafters!  I have 2 NEW RELEASE cards to share with you today.  One more day and you get to see them all!!  The blog hop begins at 8am EST monday morning.  And as mentioned before there are lots of stamps being given away.  It's Layers of Colors 3rd birthday and we are celebrating in style.  We are going to have a tea-rrific time!!
So are you ready to win some stamps??   You can begin the hop over on the Layers of Color blog tomorrow.  HERE.  It's a circular hop, so you want miss a thing.  Comment on each designers blog for a chance to win a free stamp set.  Winners will be announced Tuesday and you will be ask to contact Laura with your mailing info so she can get your stamps in the mail to you.  Easy peasy!

You can see the glitter on the birds and around the frame on this close-up.

Masking Technique
I did wan to take a minute to explain the masking technique used in this card.  The image is a corner - triangle image.  I decided to stamp the image twice to create a square.  I wasn't brave enough to try in directly on the front of the card, so I stamped the images on a seperate piece of white cardstock, colored and then trimmed.  But with a little practice, you might be able to stamp it perfectly directly on the card and save a little time.
Stamp Pansy Corner once on cardstock and a second time on masking tape.  Trim masking tape and cover image on cardstock.  Save you mask and you can re-use it.  (I stick mine to the back of the stamp board panel that my stamp is stored on).   Stamp other corner, overlapping the edges, to create a box.  Remove masking tape and color with markers.

On a personal note ...
We have been living in a rental since we moved to Texas and we have started looking for a house.  We found a really good deal on one and may be making an offer this week.  We would appreciate you prayers.  It's scarry buying a re-sale house, since you don't know if there are some hidden issue with it.
We are so READY to get out of this rental though.  1400sq ft with my adult son, 2 dogs and 2 cats has started feeling like a cracker box.  And my sweet daughter has been sleeping on the couch when she comes to visit.  2100sq ft would feel like a mansion!

I will be back on Wednesday and Friday with some Valentine projects!
See ya then!

The Countdown has begun ...

Well the countdown to Thanksgiving has begun.  Do you have all your supplies/ingredients??  I'm ready ... I think.  I have to work monday-wednesday though.  So I want begin cooking til Thursday.  It's just my son, husband and myself here in Texas, so no rush.  It's my first thanksgiving without my daughter.  I will miss cooking with her.  But we still have so much to be thankful for!!

So I think a couple of thank you cards are appropriate!

Stamps : Vintage Roses and Royal Birds clear art stamp sets

Challenges
Card Patterns - sketch

I stamped this thank you card using Garden Wall Frame cling art stamp.  It's compatible with the Spellbinders Labels 14 die!
I just love this image!

Lots to Do is looking for your favorite technique.

Stencil Technique with modeling paste
One of my favorite techniques right now is anything I do with my Layers of Color art stencils.  This particular stencil is Botanical Swirls.   For this card I used modeling paste.  So easy and adds so much dimension.  You want to use a thick cardstock or watercolor paper though or the paper may buckle a little.  After it drys just brush on some ink.
CES wants us to use lace, one of my favorites!
And I LOVE it when I can find it in colors.  Another option is to by beige or white and spray is with color, paint it, or use your copic markers!

Creative Card Crew - thank you

Did you know that Layers of Color is on Facebook now!  We would love to have you stop by:
HERE

Well if you haven't started planning, then get busy!
Have a blessed week!

MIXED MEDIA / ART JOURNAL

Good Afternoon papercrafters.  On a previous post I shared with you that I had been inspired by the "Inspiration Wednesday" video's by Donna Downey.   Every wednesday Donna explores different techniques and ways to apply color.  She does this in her "inspiration journal".  You can view a list of all of them on her blog HERE.  I am enjoying learning about different ways to apply color.

I have decided to display my "journal pages" on my 7 Gypsies Photo stand and will share these with you as I create them.

So for this page I started with water color paper.  Apply a water down yellow acrylic paint.  I used a green water color crayon around the edges.  I just colored it on and then added a little water with a wet paint brush, blending with the yellow.  I wanted it a little lighter in the middle so I used some white acrylic paint here and there til I got the look I wanted.  Next I used my Layers of Color Natural Flourish art stencil .  So easy to use.  I applied VersaMagic Tea Leaves with this in 2 of the corners.  My butterflies and the floral center in the large flower are from "Flutterescent" and "Flowering Gem" clear art stamp sets by Layers of Color.  I needed a center for the flower so I started digging through my stash and found this neglected pack of metal brads.  Just big enough to fit.  To tie everything in, I decided to add some gold around the edge of my frame (really old as well) and butterflies.  I think the ruffled ribbon works great for the stem and leaves.  The quote is from Inspirational Quotes.
The font style is totally inspired by Donna.  To finish it off, I used a charcoal pencil around the edges.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

Mark's Finest Papers' Get Well Soon!

This is my last week with Mark's Finest Papers' as well.  The owner, Faith, is very generous and supportive and I have really enjoyed working with her and MFP's this month.  If you haven't yet, I hope you will hop over to her store and just take a peak.  Faith has designed her own line of stamps, but sells other manuf. stamps as well, including Flourishes.  She carries everything needed to create beautiful cards. Her store is a great one stop shop!  And if you love challenges, then check out their blog.  Every saturday a new challenge is posted.

Today I have used another one of the charms she sells.  She carries ALOT, so I know that she has something to fit your theme and they are so inexpensive and add alot to your project. This dragonfly was gold and I colored it with my Copic Markers.  I used 2 of her stamp sets on this one, "Flourishes and Frames" and "Apples and Camelia".
