The Cutting Cafe / GinaK Joy Word Shaped Card

Hello friends.  Today's Christmas card was actually featured in the November issue of Paper Crafts Magazine.  It was designed using The Cutting Cafe's "Joy Word Shaped Card" (comes in a PDF for hand cutting or WPC / SVG if you have one of those fancy cuttin' machines) and embellished using one of the images from Gina K. Designs "A Very Merry Christmas".

The Cutting Cafe Baseball and Bat Shaped Card

Hello card makers.  Today I'm sharing a fun 2 card set perfect for any little boy.  I designed this set using The Cutting Cafe's "Baseball and Bat Shaped Card Set Template / Cutting File"

Regina at the Cutting Cafe is sooooo talented and if you have never taken a minute to hop over and check her out then you need to.  HERE.

I teamed it up with some embellishments by Basic Grey "Hey Boy" and a Crafter's Workshop stencil (stars).  To create some of the star images I used a retired Gina K. Designs set.

I hope you are all having a great week.  This was the first week we have had cool mornings (60's) and it has been so wonderful to sit outside some mornings, do bible study and listen to the birds.  They are so loud around my house in the morning singing their happy little songs.  I was overwhelmed with a feeling of peace and happiness that was coming from such a simple morning.  I didn't have to go on vacation, just step outside on the patio.  So I took some time to thank God for this wonderful blessing.  I don't ever want to take it for granted because I know there are so many who don't have this awesome privilege.  

Hope all of you have your own little peaceful place where you can go and spend time with God as well.

Project Details

Base Ball Shaped Card  - 4 ½” x 4 ½”

Template / pattern : The Cutting Café

Patterned Paper and paper embellishments : Basic Grey

Stencil : Crafter’s Workshop

Cut card by hand or with cutting machine (PDF and SVG files

available) from brown cardstock and blue patterned paper. 

Ink edges of blue piece with brown ink and adhere to card front. 

Use the stars stencil by Crafter’s Workshop and patterned paper to create star shaped paper embellishments.  Adhere threads, chipboard embellishment,  and paper star embellishments to card front.  Trim sentiment into a banner and adhere to card front.

Ink edges of orange bat and adhere to card front.  Print

sentiment on cream cardstock and cut into a circle.  Cut another

circle and scalloped circle from blue patterned paper.  Ink edges and

layer.  Stamp ticket / sentiment on patterned paper and cream cardstock.  Assemble cream sentiment over ticket. Adhere both to card front.  Embellish with paper star and banner embellishments.

It's all about the girls again this week!!

Hello friends.  This week the DT is sharing projects designed using "Assorted Purse Box Template Cutting File" and  "Purse Shaped Card and Treat Box Set Template / Cutting File".  I decided to create a gift bag using the Assorted Purse Box file.  There are multiple options and the gift box size is approximately 4" tall (not including the height of the handle) x 5 1/2".  Great size for a small gift!!  It also comes with lots of little accessories like the little flower I added.  These files come with lots of cute phrases and sentiments perfect of purse shaped projects.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow !!!

Hello friends!  Hope you are all doing well and finding some time to relax and get crafty.  We arrived back in town last Wednesday night and have been playing catch up ever since then.  Lots of laundry and yard work to catch up on.  I think I need another vacation to rest from my vacation, teehee.

Today I'm sharing some Christmas / Winter projects I designed using cutting files for The Cutting Cafe.  The DT was given 3 files to choose from this week to create our project : "Christmas Card Fun Cutting File", "Snow Globe Shaped Card Cutting File", or " Christmas Car Printable Stamps" .  You can check out lots of inspiration for these digital files on the TCC DT Blog HERE later today.

As soon as I saw the "Snow Globe Shaped Card Cutting File" I thought of acetate and Fun Flock.  I used Fun Flock on the snowman hat and for the show.  I adhered it with a glue pen on the hat and Aleene's Tachy glue for the snow.  The acetate gives it a snow globe feel.  The snow man is from "Frosty the Snowman Printable Stamp Set"

Here is another fun shaped card from The Cutting Cafe, "Mitten Shaped Card".  I used  brown Fun Flock on the cuff of this one.

TCC Nail Polish Gift Box

Hello friends.  We are on the road back to Houston today.  Colorado was beautiful ... but I can't wait to get home.  The mountains there are so beautiful.   We have a wonderful memory of Mt. Evans.  The highway leading to the summit is the highest highway in the North East.  We did not know what we were getting ourselves into.  I laughed soooo hard.  The highway is narrow and you have approx. 6" on the side and then it just drops off.  There was an occasional pull off and we pulled over every time we got the chance to take a break or to let other cars pass.  We were only going about 20 miles hours.  It was crazy how fast other cars were driving.  The funny part was my husband "freaking out".  We laughed so hard.  We kept telling him to focus on the center line and don't look over at the drop.  My daughter and I realized we were leaning toward the center of the car .... like that would keep us from going off the side, teehee!  We only made it half way.  Next time we will make it to the summit.  I will share photo's after I get home and get them edited.

Today I'm sharing this cute little nail polish gift box!!  I LOVE this one.  As always you can either cut them with your electronic cutter or by hand.  Sorry about the photo's.  I edited them before we left for vacation ... but didn't save them to my laptop.  I don't have a photo editing program on my lap top, so I had to use them directly from my photo card.

Card / Gift Box Set from The Cutting Cafe

Hello paper crafters.  Today I'm sharing my DT project for The Cutting Cafe.  This little card storage box would be perfect as a gift set for someone.  I used "Card Box Organizer Set".

I created a some coordinating cards.  The butterflies are from a Stampin' Up stamp set "Papillon Potpourri".  I LOVE this set.  If you love it too and don't have a Stampin' Up demo then you can order from my friend Melayne's online store and it will be shipped directly to your home.  This set also has coordinating punches so you don't have to hand cut those little butterflies, HERE.  I don't see the larger butterfly punch "Elegant Butterfly" available online.  But if you are interested, you can email her your order and she can set it up to be delivered to your home.  

I used an 8 x 8 paper pad (Citrus Stack) by DCWV.  You can get it at Joann's Crafts store.

Christmas in July Blog Hop!

Good morning friends!  I'm so happy you are joining me today for a Christmas in July Blog Hop I am participating in with a few friends.  It's never too early to get started on Christmas cards and gifts.  I'm actually getting started much earlier than usual.  I've been working on some card gift sets for my co-workers. I just got 2 new Christmas stamp sets in from Sweet n' Sassy and Red Rubber Designs this week!  They both have poinsettia's in them.  I'm planning on putting together some samples so I can work on them on my 2 day drive to Colorado next week.

Butterfly Gift Box from The Cutting Cafe

Good morning friends!  Today I am sharing a project using the "Butterfly Treat Box Cutting File" by The Cutting Cafe.  Every Wednesday the design team for TCC shares projects over on the blog.  The post will be up later today and you can check it all out HERE.  Butterflies are the theme this week and we were assigned the treat box above and "Social Butterfly Printable Stamp Set".

Strawberry Treat Box and Shaped Card for The Cutting Cafe

Good morning friends.  Today I am sharing a sweet little treat / gift basket designed using "Strawberrry Treat Box" by The Cutting Cafe.  The choices for our DT assignment this week were the treat box above, "Strawberry Shaped Card", or the "Berry Sweet Greetings Printable Stamp Set".  The only thing extra I added was the scalloped mat at the bottom of my box.  Read more about how to create one below.

All the files from The Cutting Cafe come in PDF, SVG and WPC.  I don't have a cutting machine.  I wanted to make sure the borders around the card matched.  After printing the images on cards I cut around each shape leaving about 1/8" border.  I lined the green leaves / stem over the strawberry and adhered it in the center with a piece of double sided adhesive tape.  I wanted to go back later and pop it up, so that's why I didn't adhere all of it down.  Next I created a folded card 5" x 7".  I adhered the strawberry to the front of it allowing part of the strawberry to hang over the fold edge.  I trimmed around the image, trimming off the part of the image that was hanging over the folded side.  I pulled the leaves / stem up and then adhered it with pop dots.  Of course if you have a cutter, then you let it do all the work, teehee.

Some of the files in the "Berry Sweet Greetings Printable Stamp Set" are already colored for you.  I printed the bingo card twice.  I trimmed around the bingo card with one of them and then layered it on black card stock.  I trimmed around the scallop on the other copy and layered it on black card stock.  I used pop dots to adhere the bingo card.  I was going to use the pre-colored strawberry's as well.  But my printer was acting up and you could see faint lines across the solid area's.  So I printed the images on card stock instead trimmed the pieces and then layered them.  Regina has great instructions on how to print just one image from a PDF page HERE.  I print mine first on printer paper.  The image is in the center of the page.  I use a piece of light tack tape to adhere a piece of card stock or patterned paper over the image, then run it back through the printer.  Make sure when you trim you paper you leave extra space at the top to run a piece of tape over it.

HOW TO CREATE A SCALLOPED BORDER MAT

The first thing you have to do is figure out what size to cut your rectangle mat before trimming the edges with the border punch.  So I measured from where the edge of the paper would be to where I wanted the edge of the treat box to be.  For this particular punch it ended up being 1 little line (1/16") short of 1/2".  Which = 7/16".  I guess you could just added a little more and made it 1/2". But that looked to wide to me.  

You need to multiple that measurement x 2.  7/16" x 2 = 7/8".  or if you prefer the 1/2" measurement .... 1/2"  x 2 = 1".  

The size of the bottom of the treat box is 2 " x 3 7/8".  So you would cut your mat 2 7/8" x 4 3/4"   (using the 7/8" + 2" and 7/8" + 3 7/8").  Now punch around all edges with your border punch and then adhere the box to it.  Clear as mud??  I hope that made sense.

Home Sweet Home ...

Hello friends.  I'm feeling a little sad.  My daughter found a teaching job in Colorado and will be moving mid July and getting her first apartment, her own little home sweet home.  I am going to miss her so much.  But that's the way it works .... they grow up and move away.  I have been praying for God's will to be done in her life, which is hard because I couldn't help but selfishly hope that His answer would be that she couldn't find a job there and might have to stay in TX with us.   She will be teaching a 5th grade class and she is so excited, making plans for the move and for her class room.  These kids will be so blessed to have her as a teacher.  It will be a long trip to move her.  But it will be fun to go with her and help her get settled in her new apartment.

On a happier note ....

Today  I'm sharing another DT for The Cutting Cafe.  The theme this week is houses.  We got to choose between using "House Shaped Card" cutting file or the "Welcome Home" printable stamp set.  I went with paper piecing again.   I was dying to use my new 6 x 6 paper pad by My Mind's Eye (In Bloom) that I had picked up at Michaels.

Paper Piecing Info

I used the PDF printable stamp set files for this project.  Several images come on 1 PDF page, but I only needed to use a single image on a page.  I followed Regina's instructions found HERE, on how to select and print just one image on a PDF page.

1. Print the image as a draft. The image will be positioned in the center of the page.

2. Trim a piece of patterned paper a size that will cover the image ... making it longer than needed.

3.  Lay the patterned paper over the draft image with the excess over the top of the image.

4.  Run light tack tape along the top of the patterned paper to secure it in place and keep any corners or edges from jamming up your printer.

5. Print and then remove the patterned paper.  Use the same draft and do it again with a new piece of patterned paper.

I ended up printing mine out on 3 pieces of pattern paper, white (to use as a base ... something to glue the pieces to), and cream (used inside windows).

To decided how to cut .... look at the image in sections.  This one has more detail than I usually deal with.  Begin by piecing the windows and doors.  

Door / Stairs : Trim the yellow door leaving excess along the bottom to glue the stairs to.  Set it aside. Windows : Trim the pink for the window on the roof first, leaving extra paper around the edges to glue the trim to.  Cut the actual window from yellow patterned paper then trim out the panes and adhere it to cream cardstock.  Adhere this to the first piece.  Do the same for the other windows.

House base : Trim pink side of the house and chimney out.  Trim the grey roof flush to all sides.  Trim the scalloped eave with extra paper left along the top so you can adhere it under the edge of the roof.

Now just adhere the roof over the pink house, then add the windows and door.  Don't forget about the trim for the chimney.

Bundle of Joy Layout for The Cutting Cafe

Good Morning friends.  Today I am sharing a layout designed using digital stamps / digital cut files by The Cutting Cafe.  Babies are the theme this week so you can hop over to the 

TCC Blog later today for more inspiration.  

The main focus of the assignment was to use one of the TCC baby bottle shaped cards / treat boxes or the diaper shaped card.  I used the baby bottle shape plus digital stamp images from "All About Babies" to create paper embellishments for my layout.  I also used a couple of dies by Cottage Cuts (Baby Buttons Mini and Diaper Pins Mini ) on the banner.

"All About Babies" Digital Stamp Set

I used the PDF files for this project to create my paper piecing's.  Several images come on 1 PDF page, but I only needed to use a single image on a page.  I followed Regina's instructions found HERE.  Scroll down til you see the section for printing just one image.  My printer settings also allow me to re-size and image as well.  The only images I re-sized are the stars on each end of the banner (60%) and the words miracle / baby boy (75%).  After I click the printer setting on the PDF page my printer box comes up.  My printer gives me the option to change settings.  For my printer I went to "properties", then "advanced", then "page layout".  This is where I am able to reduce the size it will print.  

I always print the image as a draft first.  I cut my patterned paper to fit over the image and secure it with some light tack tape.  I switch the setting to print a better quality and print.  I repeat the process for each patterned paper I need for the particular image I'm paper piecing.   For example : I printed the boat on white cardstock, blue, and yellow patterned paper.  I trimmed out the outline of the entire image from the white so I would have a base to adhere the other section to.  I trimmed other pieces and adhere to the base.  I used pop dots for the sails and star at the top.

GOT COFFEE??

Hello friends.  Boy this week really gotten away from me.  I'm excited to share that I'm going on a scrapbook retreat with one of my best girlfriends, Melayne at the end of the week ( thur - sun ) !!!  So excited about that.  I haven't even started packing though.  I'm hoping to work on painting some gingerbread ornaments, as well as create tons of Christmas and birthday cards.  I also have a really fun card set / holder project that I will making for Christmas gifts this year as well.  I'm hoping that will keep me busy enough.  In the past I have really over packed.  But sometimes you just don't know what you will need.  So after work tomorrow the mad dash to pack with begin.

I was so excited about this week's theme over at The Cutting Cafe because it's all about coffee!!   I have a layout started, but didn't quite get it finished.  My daughter and her boyfriend are crazy about coffee and the images from "Got Coffee" were so perfect.  I will have to share that one later.  For the project I'm sharing today I used a cutting / PDF file called  "Coffee Cup Shaped Card".  It includes an optional gift card pocket for the inside of the card as well.  The Cutting Cafe also has a really cool "Coffee Cup Holder"as well.  I'm sure some of the girls will be sharing some great inspiration using all three of these files over on the DT Blog for our Wednesday DT reveal.  THE POST DOESN'T USUALLY GO LIVE TIL WED AFTERNOON.   Regina is so generous and every week she does a random drawing for all those who leave comments so you definitely want to check it out.

I found the perfect shabby chic paper pad to use with this one, DCWV "The Primrose".

OH SNAP!

Hello friends.  Camera's are a huge trend in paper crafting right now and I LOVE it.

So today I'm excited to share with you my first project as a member of The Cutting Cafe DT!  I used one of the sets released by TCC in March, "POLAROID AND CAMERA FUN TEMPLATE AND PRINTABLE SET". 

The Cutting Cafe offers digital cutting files / stamp sets.  You do not have to have a cutting machine to create all the fun projects.  They come in PDF for as well.  You can read more about them HERE.  Regina also has wonderful how to / tips and info HERE you will want to read over before purchasing as well. 

Starting 2013 some of the sets include JPEG files as well, which makes re-sizing soooo easy!!  On this layout I enlarged the camera, film strip, polaroid photo, and "Oh Snap" so I could use them on a layout.  I have not had good luck re-sizing images from the PDF's.  I loose some of the resolution.  Of course this could be user error, teehee

So in case you are new to working with digital images I'm going to share my process.  I'm sure there are other ways this can be done as well.  

The first thing I wanted to do was CROP OUT INDIVIDUAL IMAGES and save them as individual files so I could re-size them individually.  I'm sure there are lots of different photo programs that allow you do do that.  I use the "Paint" program that came with my Windows Vista computer years ago because that's what I'm familiar with and I can do it quickly.

1. Open the jpeg digi stamp page in Paint.
2.  I decreased the viewing size by selecting Image, Resize/Skew, and decreased to 50%. I did this so I could see the entire page on my screen.  It does not change the size of your images, just the way you view them.
3. Use the select tool (dotted box) to frame the individual image. Crop in as close as you can.  This will be helpfull with re-sizing later.
4. Then select Image and crop.  This will eliminate all the other images and allow you to save just the one as an individual jpeg.  Save it.  It doesn't matter what size it is at this point.
5. After you are done with the first image click edit and undo.  Now do the same thing with any other images you want to use.

After you are done close out the program.  It will ask if you want to save, MAKE SURE select NO because you don't want to alter your original file.

Next I want to RE-SIZE AND PRINT my images.  I opened up a document (you can use Microsoft Works - that's what I have, or Word).

1.  Insert the images into a document.  I drag and drop mine.  The image will be HUGE in your document.
2. Grab and drag a corner and decrease the size.  
3.  After I have all the images in the document I can play around and decide the sizes I want before printing.  You can use the ruler along the top of your document as a guide, or to be more precise, select format.  To re-size using format object : Right click on the image, select format object, select size and resize.
4. Print.

PAPER PIECING

1. Print images in draft form.
2. Trim the correct size patterned paper you need and tape it over the image.  I tape mine all the way across the top so that none of the edges get caught.  Make sure you don't put the tape over the image and leave plenty of room so you will get the whole image if the printer is a little off when you reprint.
3. Load the paper and print.

I'm sure there are easier ways to do it.  This is the way I learned to do it with out having to purchase additional programs.
