Finally some Christmas cards

Hello friends.  I'm so far behind on getting Christmas Cards made.  I was able to get crafty this afternoon and have a couple to share with you.

Ok, that ribbon matches much better in real life.  I finally got a light box set up (made my own) and thought all my lighting / color problems would be solved, NOT!

This first card uses Layers of Color Cling art stamp "Poinsettia Frame".  Moxie Fab's Trigger Tuesday and the CPS sketch were my main inspiration!  The only problem is, that the photo I saved is NOT this weeks Tuesday Trigger, teehee.  I'm loosin' it.  Now I'm dying to know where I got this photo from??  Anybody know??

I had to get the cuticle scissors out on this one.  I don't mind doing a little detailed cutting sometimes, because I love the results!

The last card I made using this stamp was done with copics.  Today I decided to go with watercolors.  The DP is Bo-Bunny - A gift of love (red flourishes) and Teresa Collins - Noel.  Lots of gold stickles used on this one.

Here is a photo of the last one in case you missed it.

I have to create one more with this one soon, because I want to turn it one it's side, with the poinsettia draping down the side of the frame.
Did you know that this stamp is compatible with Labels 16??  Yep, LOC is a Spellbinders Preferred Stamp Company and has lots of great choices for Labels 14 and 16.  You can check them out HERE.

And this is a little mini card.  I designed it to play along with this weeks challenge over at the CREATE blog.  I used one of the cute little deer from "Reindeer Waltz" by Layers of Color.  The challenge was to create a mini card 3" x 3".  I used one of my Spellbinders Label Die's and mine is 2.5" x 2.75".

The DP is Bo-Bunny Gifts of Love again.  The brad SEI.  And the snowflake chipboard peice is Creative Imaginations.  Sentiment in the card above and this one are Making Memories.  You may be able to get this Christmas rub-on booklet at Hobby Lobby.  My next hoarding goal - rub-on sentiments!  I have to find more of these!

"Fruit of the Spirit" Blog Hop Day 3

Good Morning and welcome to Day 3 of the Layers of Color / 2 Sketches 4 You "Fruit of the Spirit" Blog Hop

I am off to work early this am and wanted to make sure my post was up, so please be patient while the other ladies get theirs up this morning.

Also playing along today:

If you missed my post monday where I explained what this hop is all about, then please scroll down. And remember that Layers of Color is sponsoring the 2 Sketches 4 You challenge blog this week. So hop on over and see what you have to do to qualify to win a free stamp set!

For this project I used Fruitful Harvest and one of the new release cling art stamps - Victorian Frame.  I also used one of Layers of Color's art stencils - Belle Brocade.  Did you know that Layers of Color is a Spellbinders Preferred Partner??  LOC has some awesome images that coordinate with Labels 14 and 16.  You can check the all out HERE.

You may have noticed that the coloring on the fruit is not my style.  I cased a card made by Layers of Color owner and artist, Laura Kirste Campbell.  I just love how she blends colors together in a way I would never come up with, so I decided to give it a try.  Isn't Laura's card below gorgeous!  She combined Fruitful Harvest with Acanthus Leaves and Her Majesty's Urns.  I just love how all of Layers of Color's stamps fit so well together!

Project Details

For my card today, I went with watercoloring for my colorization.   I used Strathmore Watercolor cold press paper.  I think the main thing I look for with watercolor paper is getting one as smooth as possible.  If there is too much texture, then your image want stamp properly.  The next decision when working with watercolor is ink.  Palette and Staz-on are water-proof.  Momento is not, but might work if you heat set it.  I'm not sure.   It took several attempts for me to get a good stamped image, because of the texture.  I have started using a linolium block that I picked up at a Michaels and I'm finding it is improving my stamping because the table I work on is not level in spots.  (see photo at bottom of post).

There are alot of different choices for watercolor techniques, from very inexpensive sets to higher end water colors in tubes.  There are watercolor crayons and pencils.  I have tried all of these and the watercolor pencils are my least favorite now that I have tried them all.  In addition, some of the inks you use for stamping can be watered down and used.  Just smear some on a piece of acetate and add a few drops of water.  Mix it together with a paint brush and you are ready to go.  Not all stamp inks blend well with the water though.  Stampin' Up does not.  But my VersaMagic and Brilliant inks by Tsukinek work well for this.  There are also shimmery options.  You can use your Glimmer Mist, Shimmerz, or H2O Watercolors.  I own and have tried all of these.  For me it just depends on what color I'm looking for and the opacity.  Today I wanted a shimmery look, so I went with my Shimmerz.  I used Pumpkin, Lilac, Golden Wheat, and Green Olive.  I needed a lighter shade green as well so I used my Sage VersaMagic ink pad.

I begin by lightly wetting the area I'm going to be working with.  Then I start adding color.  Have a paper towel on stand by.  If the color is to dark, blot it off.  I used my finger a few times to help blend the colors.

I'm not a watercolor expert and most of what I have learned was through trying the different products and just playing.  I love the softness you can get with the watercolors and it's so much fun to try different colorization techniques.  I would love to take a class some day.
I hope you will be inspired to give it a try!  If you choose to give it a try, I would love to see your work!

For the rest of the project:
I used cuticle scissors to cut around the image.  I stamped Victorian Frame on a lilac dp by K&Company.  I used Copics, G82 and G85 to color some portions of the image.  I used Labels 14, slightly smaller to fit inside the image and slightly larger to border the image, from beige paper, and a larger one from purple paper as well.  Adhere Victorian Frame to purple border, and adhere beige smaller cut to inside on top of image.  Adhere Fruitful Harvest image on top.  I put a couple of pop dots in the center of mine.  I stenciled Belle Brocade on lilac dp.

I created my own little ruffle border using crepe paper.  That gorgeous lace is by Webster Pages.  It came in my October Pixie Dust Shabby Chic Kit.  You can check out all the wonderful projects on the Pixie Dust Paperie Blog.  You can check out these fun kits in The Pixie Shop HERE.  Not sure who make the green velvet.

After inking edges assemble as shown.

I'm using mine for an upcoming birthday card I needed.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day!

Project Details
I used "Fruitful Harvest" from Layers of Color again today.  What a beautiful art stamp set.  I stamped it on old book paper.  I colored with my copics, then added a little shimmerz and glitter.  You can see a hint of the shine in the photo.  Before doing all that detailed trimming, I added some glue on the back to create support for those branches and leaves hanging off the side.
DP is 7 Gypsies Nottinghill 6x6 Paper pad which I think I got from Mark's Finest Papers earlier in the year.  Ribbon - May Arts.  That cute little button is from a local craft store and is by "Dress it up" - Au Jardin.  It's a cute little pack of vintage looking colored buttons.  And I'm so excited, I used my new Spellbinders die set - Lacey Circles - for the first time.  I LOVE this set!!

Here are the other participates for today's hop!

and you may want to check the blog's of 2 other DT members for their announcement of winners from yesterday's drawings:

One of the things I LOVE about Layers of Color is their desire to share God with others.  So when ask to participate in this special hop, I was so excited.  This verse is near and dear to my heart.  When my children were small, I had a book series I used to read to them.   Each book explained each fruit of the Spirit.  I also stenciled each fruit of the Spirit along the ceiling down our hallway.  I wanted these words to be a daily reminder of what we should be living out.  Many of you may be familiar with this wonderful bible verse.  God did not leave us to wonder who we are or who we should be as His children.  This verse is just one of so many that leads us in the direction living a Godly life.  While none of us are, nor will be, perfect, this verse reminds us that if we walk in the Holy Spirit, we can exercise these characteristics.  We can experience the joy of living the life our God intends for us.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness and faithfulness."  Galatians 5:22-23

If any of you have questions about becoming a Christian, then please contact one of us.  Each and every member of this team would be thrilled to share with you God's great plan for salvation.

Fall Centerpiece and Cards!

Hello papercrafters.  Today I am sharing some of my older projects that I have never shared on this blog before.  These were posted on my TAC blog at some point.  But the idea's are timeless.  So I hope you will be inspired to create your own Fall home decor and tableware this year!

This was created pre-copic markers.  I think at some point I want to redo the images with copic markers and update my centerpiece.  All of the stamps used were from The Angel Company.  These sets are discontinued.  But if you want to use these exact images to create your own centerpiece, let me know and I will drop you some in the mail.

Here are a couple of cards I created using a couple of the A2 Circle Window cards from Creative Cuts and More.  These were pretty easy to put together using some of the Jolee's fall stickers.

Isn't the sign hanging in the window just perfect!

I'm linking this project to
Cupcake Inspiration's Color Challenge. (you have to see this yummy fall cupcake!)
Tuesday Throwdown is looking for "Give Thanks" projects.
For Fun Challenges is looking for use of something you have never used before - the leaf stamp image.
I created this "Hostess Gift Container" a few years back.  This project is perfect when you are having your Thanksgiving meal at someone else's house.  Give your hostess a little fall thank you gift for all her hard work in preparing this years Thanksgiving meal!

This altered large 30oz vegetable can makes a great and inexpensive gift container. I was totally inspired to try this when I seen the cover of Hand Crafted Vol 4 a few years back year.  Lisa Kaus's altered "tinnies" are beautiful, so I had to give it a try. Wouldn't these be fun for Christmas too! Lisa Kaus is a fabulous Mixed Media Artist and you can check out her blog HERE.  I would love to see what everyone else comes up with, so let me know if you decide to try it.

My "tinnie" was created using a 30oz Vegtable can.  Start by shaping the can.  Squeeze the top of the can together as shown.  I spray painted my can with a textured paint.  This spray paint leaves a brown textured finish and I think it was called "Make it Stone" by Krylon.  I got mine at a local craft store.  I sprayed it inside out.  Then on the outside, I rubbed some white paint over it to distress it more.

The handle is brown wire twisted together.  I used my Crop-a-dile to punch holes in the sides.

I stamped a background script image on beige cardstock with brown ink and then distressed it more using brown ink and a stipple brush.  Tear the edges, then wrap it around the top and bottom of the can.

The title is stamped and punched.  Metal embellishements were attached to the ends for "handles".  Ribbon was tied to one end, wrapped around the can and then tied to the other end.

Leaves were stamped on beige cardstock and colored with warm orange and yellow inks.  I adhered along with the paper flowers on the front.

Waltzing Reindeer

Hello friends!  I can't believe my last post was Wednesday.  Well I got tied up cutting out 60 reindeer and 20 sleds for a shoebox swap (card swap) I attended on Saturday.  It was my first and when I designed the card I really didn't think about how much work it would end up being for me.  But it was worth it.  I love the results and I had a fabulous time meeting other stampers in the area!  Lots of new friends were made and that was what it was all about!

It was my first side step card as well!!  I am in love with this card template and can't wait to make another one.

You can check out a tutorial HERE.

I built this scene using stamps from 3 different companies.
Stamps : Reindeer - Layers of Color -  Reindeer Waltz, trees - Impression Obsession, sled - GinaK, sentiment, Crafty Secrets.
Colorization : brown ink - Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate, green ink - VersaMagic Spanish Olive with Clusters Stardust embossing powder, Copic Markers on sled.
Brown glitter - Martha Stewart Brownstone, applied using Zig 2-way Glue Pen.
Cuttlebug Embossing folders : 1st and last steps I used "Snowflakes".  On step 2 I used "Swiss Dots".  For the vertical panel on the left side I used "Holly Ribbons".  I used a Tim Holtz distressing tool along the top of the snow hills.
Spellbinders Labels 1.  Ribbon - SU.

I am in love with these waltzing reindeer!!

Stamps : "Reindeer Waltz" Layers of Color
The DP (American Crafts), string, and doily all came from a wonderful little shabby chic kit I recently purchased from a new kit company, Pixie Dust Paperie!!  Each month they will be releasing a new Shabby Chic Kit!  And there DT, the Pixies, share lots of inspiration on their BLOG.   For a chance to WIN a $15.00 gift certificate like I did last week, play along with the Pixie Dust Challenges on their blog or on City Crafters!

On a personal note:
I'm off to see if I can get something crafty done today!  I think I have talked DH into grilling out, so that will help.  Good news,  DS had a job interview at the end of last week for a REAL job (I'm sorry, but working at the Gamestop part time, with an engineering degree just doesn't count in my book!).  Please PRAY!  I love my son, but it's time to shove him out of the nest, teehee.  I mentioned to DS and DH that if this works out, maybe we can have him out of here by Christmas and in his own place.  DH quickly chimes in "Honey, don't rush him.  Let's just get him used to earning a paycheck and making his car payment and insurance".  I quickly replied, "Listen, sometimes you gotta throw the kid in the pool and let them flop around a little!!  Then they learn how to swim!"  DS thought that was funny.

Thank you so very much for stopping by and visiting!

The CCM HOLIDAY Blog Hop is here !!

Good Morning Papercrafters!  Today is the Creative Cuts and More HOLIDAY Blog Hop and I am so excited.  I know we will be seeing a wonderful variety of holiday projects to get us motivated and inspired!  Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner.

This is a circular blog hop, so if you arrived to my blog from the CCM Die Cut Diva Blog, then you are right on track.  If you didn't, then you will want to hop over to the Die Cut Diva Blog to begin the hop.  If there are any prized or discounts, they will be announced there.  I am posting early because I have to make sure my post is up before leaving for work.
This blog hop does not start til 8am EST.

I couldn't do just one project.  I love both holidays.

My first idea has to do with gift giving.  In the past I have done ornament swaps with co-workers.  So I thought the "Cupcake Box Set" would make a perfect ornament holder / gift box because of the little insert that goes in the bottom.

Check out the little "Christmas Ornament die".  There are larger ones as well.  CCM has lots of "Christmas dies" you can use for your papercrafting projects this year!

I will list all the other supplies I used at the bottom of the post.

And of course I needed a matching card.

I used one of the "CCM A2 Cards" for this one in this gorgeous shimmery Curious Metallic papers - Gold Leaf.  The stamp set is one of the new release
Cling Art Stamps by Layers of Color.  Layers of Color is a Spellbinders Preferred Stamp Company!  This one is called "Poinsettia Frame".  This particular image coordinates with Labels 16 !  I didn't use it here.  If I had there would have been a border.

I"ve been getting really busy with Fall projects the last couple of day as well.

I actually posted this one Monday.  But I knew I would have some new traffic with the blog hop so I'm showing it again!  I used the "Large Cake Slice Box" for my treat container and the "Small Filigree Square" (on the name plate and napkin ring).

You can check out all the details for this ensemble HERE.

So this wraps it up for me today.  I will be posting lots more Fall and Christmas idea's in the upcoming weeks.  If you don't want to miss a thing, you can subscribe via the feedblitz tool and recieve email updates (see left column).

All of the designers now have a discount codes.  So when ordering your CCM products don't forget to use your favorite designers code.  I'm sure you will find it posted on their blog somewhere.

The next stop is

MIXED MEDIA / ART JOURNAL PROJECT

Look what I whipped up last night!  I have to tell you that I am having the best time playing with canvas and background techniques!! I have been watching some of the background techniques that Donna Downey teaches over on her blog. She does weekly video's in her Inspiration Art Journal. I had been looking for some raw canvas to work on, but I'm wasn't sure where to find it. I just happened to be looking around in the artist section of Michaels and found this "Medium Texture Real Artist Canvas" by Fredrix in a pad format and decided to give it a try. I knew I needed something that would hold up against lost of wetness, me spraying it with water. AND IT WORKED!! I'm so excited.  I will say that I have also created a panel with a heavy watercolor paper and it works as well.  You can check out Donna's art journal pages HERE.  And her "Inspiration Wednesday" video's HERE.  Now some weeks may not be your style or you may not like them at all, but take away the technique and create your own version.  That's what I did with this one.  This doesn't look anything like what Donna would create!

Donna used a "journal" to explore techniques. But I don't have one. So I decided to finally use that 7 Gypsies Photo Stand I've had forever. I'm going to hang each panel on it, so I can flip through my pages. I trimmed the sheets down to 6 x 8".

LOVE mixed media, but really don't have any skills in that area. So this will truely be an artistic journey for me. You should have seen me staring at the blank canvas when I first started this one.  It took me forever to get me background done.  If you are interested in this kind of art / growing as an artist, then I encourage you to check out Donna's Blog! I also found some downloadable Mixed Media Video's over at Cloth Paper Scissors. Here is a link to some FREEBIES.  And here is a link to some you can purchase for 14.95 (scroll down the page to see them) : HERE.

I got a chance to ask Donna about here journal in a video chat the other night.  They are handmade using a very heavy cardstock.  You can check them out HERE.  Or be a rebel and do your own thing, like me!

Since it's Fall it just seemed like the logical direction to go in for this panel.  And when I think of fall, I think of rich colors and texture.  I started with some acrylic paints then started layering old book paper and some tissue paper, then more paint and Glimmer Mist - Harvest Orange.  The 2 large dies are from Creative Cuts and More - HERE.   Mine started out a bright orange.  I ran it through the Big Shot with an embossing folder and layered on some acrylic paint and Glimmer Mist - Harvest Orange.  I used some really old "Provo Craft" dies to create the smaller leaves.  Again adding acrylic paint.  Adhered to front of panel and traced around the edges of the leaves and edges of panel using a charcoal pencil (you can get these in the artist section at local craft store).

Next I opened up my Fall embellishment drawer and found these old rub-ons.  I did a google search and found this great quote.  I typed it up (leaving lots of space between the sections of words and printed.  But I didn't want the background to be white, so I cut some thin cardstock chalked up the paper, lightly adhered it over the words on the computer paper and then ran that same sheet through the printer again.  Now the words printed on my chalked paper.  I sprayed the paper with "Fixative" spray, tore close to the words around each one, and inked up the edges.
BTW the creamy chalks are the best.  I used my Craft T Products set for this project.

The other chalks I like to use are the Pearlescent ones from Pebbles Inc.  I think you can get them at Hobby Lobby.

Thanks for letting me ramble along again!  Hope you were inspired to create something fun and make sure and email me if you have any questions!
