We are buying a HOUSE!!

I'm so excited! and just wanted to share.

I am very excited to share our wonderful news!  We got through negotiations and we are buying a new house!!  I feel like I should wait til closing to share, but I"m so excited.  Here are some photo's.  I copied them off the internet from the realtor, so they are a little blurry enlarged, but you can get the idea.  Here is a link to a U-tube video of the house

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAo3kGjoiLg&feature=related

and for all my card swapping friends, my new address starting in March will be:
18535 Blanca Springs Ct, Humble, TX 77346
Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself.  I should wait til closing to start passing out the address!  We should close somewhere around the beginning of Feb I think.

We have a few things we want to do before moving in.

We want to put wood down in the livingroom and dining room area's.
And replace that dining room lighting fixture.  I LOVE the plantation shutters in the dining room and study area's.

This my friends, will be my studio!!  I'm sooo excited!  This is a study at the front of the house and we are going to extend the tile into this area and put up french doors at this large opening.  I've been thinking about paint.  I think I'm go to go with 1 maybe 2 walls of RED!!!!  This is the room I am most excited about!!

Eventually upgrade the counters but there is nothing wrong with these and the cabinets on the other side are 42".  Plenty of room for storage as well as a pantry at the end near the frig.  The great thing is everything is nuetral, so we have a blank canvas to work with!

The hardest part for me will be deciding on paint here.  The breakfast area, kitchen and livingroom are open, so it needs to coordinate.  We are replacing that back door with one tha doesn't have glass so we can install a doggy door.  Oh how I have missed the doggy door we had in Florida.  And the best part ... I want be locked in the house with my daughters 2 cats!  Hmmm, wonder what the odds are of them "getting lost"???  sshhh, don't tell my daughter I said that, teehee.

I'm shopping for a new couch and chair.  Ours are really old.

This bedroom is huge and I love all the big windows.

There are 2 other bedrooms and another bathroom as well.

This was such a great deal for us in comparison to the house we had in Florida.
I am praising God for this blessing.  I still can't believe the deal we got for a house in this great condition.

Lots to do before moving in!!

The neighborhood is wonderful and the community has a sports complex, which is not a plus for me, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret ... Fred wants to do an Iron Man someday (shhhh don't tell him I let the cat out of the bag).  So the olympic size pool and gym will come in handy for training and he want have to go far.  He had been driving to down town Houston to a park and meeting with a running group.

Thank you so much for letting me share!
Have a great day,
Melisa

Collaged Valentine Cards

Good Morning Papercrafters!
Tonight I am sharing a Valentine Card set.

These were created in the same way and using the same supplies as wednesday.
Again I have combined my Layers of Color clear art stamps - Renaissance Hearts, Fleur Hearts, and Regal Wings with Creative Inspirations "Bliss" paper and Impress-on Swatch book by Marah Johnson.

All of the images for these are from the Dover Holiday Vignette book I talked about on wednesday.
This is another example of "masking" (see wed. post).  That beautiful black ink I used is VersaFine by Tsukineko!

and the edges of those were trimmed with deckled scissors.

Hope you like my LOVE-ly creations!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Collaged Valentine Tags

Good Afternoon Papercrafters!
Today I'm sharing a Valentine tag set.

For each of these I started with Marah Johnsons (Creative Imaginations) Bliss Paper and Bliss Swatch Book Impress Ons (rub-ons).
You can purchase yours HERE and HERE.   It was the perfect match for my Layers of Color art stamps - Renaissance Hearts, Fleur Hearts, and  Regal Wings.

On this one I stamped my Fluer heart image in VersaFine Black Ink by Tsukineko.  This is my favorite black ink pad when I'm not using my copics.  I used a rub-on "My Love" from the Creative Imaginations Swatch Book.  I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby.   I added this little vintage cut-out.  I had found a Dover Holiday Vignette Book.  Loaded with lots of vintage images for each holiday.  I found mine at a used bookstore.  Just google Holiday Vignettes dove and it will come up.  In fact if you love incorporating vintage images into your projects then you should really check out the Dover Vignette and Clip Art books.  Yes!  it was that easy!

Tag #2.
I mixed it up and added some music paper.  Adhered a my Valentine image.  I picked up the Valentine images on this one and the one below from The Shabby Cottage HERE.  I REALLY like the digital Collage sheets she sells.  Check out these Easter collage images!  Stamp on patterned paper using an image from Renaissance Hearts.  And next Christmas you will definitely see some of these Christmas collage images on my projects.  You can download and print them yourself or purchase them already printed.  She has 2 different catagories over in the left column.  One says "digital downloads"  and the other "printed", so make sure you are in the section you want.  Here is a link to the Store Front.

Next just stamp the Fluer Heart image.  Then stamp it again to create a mask.   I use Eclipse Masking tape because it has a very light sticky back, like a post-it note.  HERE is a link to the site.  You can get this from lots of online stores.  When you are masking, you just stamp your image a second time, cut it out, and lay it over the other stamped image.  This technique is used when you want to stamp an image over an image and you don't want part of the second image to obsure the first.  And lastly I used the rub-ons again along the bottom and on the image of the couple.

This one was pretty much made the same way.  I just switched the direction that I tilted everything.

The clock is part of the rub-on booklet as well.  This little booklet is loaded with rub-ons.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
I'll be back friday with a set of Valentine cards.

On a personal note ...
We have been living in a rental since we moved to Texas and we have started looking for a house.  We found a really good deal on one and may be making an offer this week.  We would appreciate you prayers.  It's scarry buying a re-sale house, since you don't know if there are some hidden issue with it.
We are so READY to get out of this rental though.  1400sq ft with my adult son, 2 dogs and 2 cats has started feeling like a cracker box.  And my sweet daughter has been sleeping on the couch when she comes to visit.  2100sq ft would feel like a mansion!

I will be back on Wednesday and Friday with some Valentine projects!
See ya then!

Mini Album #3 : Rockin' Roxie

Happy New Year Papercrafters!  I'm sooooo excited about the new year and what it will bring!  First of all a house!  Oh how I can't wait.  Our lease is up in April, so we are starting to work with our realtor.  Oh how I want a bigger studio to work in!

Today I am sharing a mini-album I created a while back.  I just found out that these little kits are just $3.48 now!  They come in several styles and would be perfect for quickly putting together a few gift albums for relatives!  You can check them all out HERE.

This particular one is called "Rockin' Roxie".
And I used TAC stamps through out to embellish it.  The word stamps are no longer available.  But you could easily create your own on your computer!  The stars are pretty generic as well, so I'm sure you could substitute these as well.  The large star is hand drawn and then I added white fun flock with my Zig 2-way Glue Pen.  Stars in the background were stamped with Brilliant Moonlight White by Tsukineko.  And those gorgeous red stars were created using Brilliance Red Rocket.

I embellished the album with basic stamps, circle and stars.
The background on this page was stamped with various circle stamps in Brilliant Moonlight White by Tsukineko.
On this page I incorporated the star theme by punching the 3 stars in the left upper corner of the photo.  And finally put some of those colored staples to use!

I used "Linear Sentiments on this page.  And you can find that set HERE.

On this page I incorporated the star theme by punching the 3 stars in the left corner of the photo.

This photo reminds me of how my heart would skip a beat when he headed down into one of the "bowls" at the local skateboard park.  We had to make him wear a helmit at home.  Luckily the skate park required it.  He is a brave boy!

This is my boy and this album captures him so well.  He is 23 now.  Wow how time flies.  He was always on the go, into something, a bundle of energy.  We made lots of trips to the ER.  He is more settled now.  And his hobbies are a little less dangerous - Video games, playing his guitar and writing music.  I LOVE this boy!

More stamped stars in the background.

$3.48 per kit!!!!!

If you do not have a TAC Consultant, then please check out my friend Barb's Online Store.
HERE

You can check out more of my mini albums HERE.

I have a couple more I will be posting in the future.  I think I will post them once monthly til I get all uploaded.  Thanks so much for stopping by and allowing me to share what I love with you!
Have a blessed day!

Merry Christmas!

Hello everyone.  I hope everyone is stayin' warm and having a Merry time!
I'm trying to stay cool, running the air conditioner.  The high yesterday was supposed to be 78.  I'm not sure about today.  I hate it when it's warm at Christmas.  But I'm very happy to have my daughter visiting from Florida and we are having a wonderful time.  We are getting some baking and crafting done.  We are in search of the perfect scone recipe, and so far have tried out 4.  The gingerbread is my favorite so far.  I think there is a Canasta showdown coming in the next day or two.  It can get pretty ugly when the four of us play a game ...  pray for us, Ha!  Then we will start cooking on Christmas Eve and attend a candlelight service at church that night.  I hope all of you are enjoying your families with your own special activities!

Today is my last post of the year and I have a Christmas card to wish you a very Merry Christmas!

All of the stamps are Layers of Color : Poinsettia cling art stamp, Acanthus Leaves and Touch of Elegance art stamp sets.  Many of the 2010 cling art stamps are compatible with Spellbinders Label 14 or 16.  You can check out the Boutique here:

Thanks so much to all of you who have followed me, encouraged me, stalked me ...  all of it!  2010 was an exciting year for me in this crafty world and I can't wait to see what 2011 brings!

And lastly I leave you with this lovely Christmas poem that expresses the true meaning of Christmas :

Tenderly she held her Baby,
And looked at Him with love.
Her heart was filled with wonderment,
about her Christ child from above.
This truly was the Son of God
was what the Angel told.
Her tiny Baby full of grace,
such a wonder to behold.

She thought of what His life would bring,
He was born to set us free.
But she only saw her infant Son,
As a Mothers love would see.
The shepherds came, the wise men too,
To praise His Holy name.
She sat in awe, and held her Child,
While those to worship came.

She must have wondered why God's Son
was born to her this day.
She wanted so much to be worthy,
as she bowed her head to pray.
Mary wrapped her robe a little closer,
around her new born Son.
The chill of this old stable,
must not touch the chosen one.

It was a humble birth,
But a King was born that day.
He came to pay the price for us,
and wash our sins away.

See ya next year!

Christmas / Winter card using Digital Stamps

Good Morning Papercrafters!  Today I am excited to be the Guest Designer for City Crafter Challenge Blog.  And because I am, I was introduced to a fabulous digi company, Di's Digi Designs.  Digital images are perfect for those last minute Christmas card images you may need.  No waiting for them to come to your mailbox.  Hop over today and get the freebie posted at the top of the blog.  But you can't stop there ...  because Di has soooo many cute images.

Today's challenge over at City Crafter is to use kraft!  So hop on over and join us!

I designed this first one using "Skating Out".  The paper is from my November Kit "Snow Shoe" from Pixie Dust Paperie.  Why use a kit??  Maybe you don't have time to shop and try to find coordinating products.  The Pixie Dust Paperie has already done that for you.  And they have wonderful designers who post great projects on the Pixie Dust Paperie Blog.  Once monthly they post a challenge and you have an opportunity to win some great products from the store!  It's not too late to pick up a November kit of your own.
Copics : browns E31, E33, E35, reds R35, pinks RV00, RV11, RV34, greens YG03.

For this one I used  "Ted's Christmas Basket".
Copics : brown E31, E33, E35, reds R29 and R59, aqua B0000 and BG13, greens G21, G24, G96.

I picked up "Loving this White Stuff" and "Penguin Sleighride" and a few others as well.  I couldn't resist the cute bears and snowmen!

And if you are looking for some Vintage Christmas digi's then hop over to McMahon Five!  Check these out:

And a couple I used to create cards last year from FireCracker Designs by Pamela:

Have a great day!

Coming to mailboxes soon!

I went to the post office and sent off my first batch of Christmas cards today.  WOW we papercrafters have to pay.  Alot of mine were $1.22.  Poor guy.  He weighed and added exact postage to each one for me.  Did you know the square cards cost more.  I had no idea.  Well it was worth it.  I like sending out my bulky, oversized handmade creations.  So, I'm really getting down to the wire though.  I'm looking for some clean and simple idea's to inspire me now.  These are not so clean and simple, but lots of fun to create.

I got busy with my Layers of Color stamps for this one.  I used several different sets : Waltzing Reindeer, Acanthus Leaves, Joyful Noise, and Touch of Elegance.

I was inspired by this piece of dp by Making Memories

It's from their Mistletoe line.
This year I purchased a couple of the Stampin Up Christmas sets.  I loved this nativity scene.  This one took longer than I thought because I had this idea that it would be so easy to stamp on the blue paper with VersaMagic and emboss with white ink.  Well that part was.  It was finding something white that would cover up the blue that was the challenge.  I started out with my white pigment ink and a dove blender pen.  Still had a blue hue after I finished.  Then I just knew that a white paint pen would cover it.  Yeah, it did, after about 5 coats.  I did this process around the edges as well.  And then added the glitter.  I want be doing that technique again, Ha!  You live and learn.  I do like the way it turned out though.  Next time I'll just paper piece it.  Some how with all that work, it's still not the masterpiece I envisioned.

If you are a last minute Christmas card maker, don't feel alone, I'm sure there are many more of us out there.  Keep plugging along with me and we wil make it.

Have a glittery day!

I'm on a roll ...

I'm posting another "Waltzing Reindeer" card today.  I just love these little guys.
I stenciled the background on this one using Belle Brocade art stencil from Layers of Color.
Ink : Momento Bamboo Leaves and Rhubarb Stalk
Spellbinders - Labels 2
Cuttlebug embossing folder Swiss dots ??
ticket sentiment - My Minds Eye Holly Jolly Christmas
stick pins, pearl brad in center of bow and leaves- Making Memories
brown glitter - Martha Stewart brownstone applied using 2-Way liquid glue pen

So I have been looking for inspiration in other departments in the craft store, baking, sewing, wedding.  And I noticed the pearl sprays in the wedding section and decided to give making my own a try.  I ued 24gauge wire and pearl beads from the craft department.

I'm off to work this morning.  Hoping to feel like getting another one done when I get home!

Lovin' my new kraft paper!

I am still working on my Christmas cards.  This weekend I was hopping around and found a beautiful vintage looking Christmas card.  I loved that there was no red or green on it, so I decided to Case It.  Who is the very talented papercrafter I cased ...  Jenny Gropp - One Krafy Kat.  Please check out her card HERE.

I knew as soon as I seen Jenny's card that it would be perfect for using this country scene.  I bought this one last year and I'm so glad I'm finally using it.  It is by Northwoods.  I would love to tell you who makes the "Joy to the World" background stamp, but when I pulled it off the block, I forgot to catalog it.  But any script background stamp would work.  I inked the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pad by Ranger.  The "Champagne" Stickles really dressed this one up.  And my new favorite ribbon is by Offray.  It is double sided satin.  I got mine in several color's from Joann's craft store here in town.

I'm linking this one to:
Let's Ink It Up - Christmas with sparkle of bling
CREATE - Quick and Easy Christmas Card
PaperPlay - Monochromatic
Creative Belli - "R" embellishments (ribbon)
Creative Cottage - Untraditional Christmas card

I hope you are having fun gearing up for Christmas!  It's coming fast!
Have a blessed day

Layers of Color Forever Friends Blog Hop

Good Morning papercrafters.  Today I bring to you a card I have created for a very special friend.

I have been so very blessed since joining the Layers of Color Design Team.  Not only does this company have a very special owner, Laura, but also some very special designers.  Not just for their papercrafting skills, but because of their love for Christ and love for their sisters in Christ.  From the very start of joining this wonderful team, I fell in love with Grace.  So today I am a little sad to say that Grace will be leaving us as a featured designer at Layers of Color.  But I am so very happy that she will be staying on as a "Friend of Layers of Color" and joining us when she can for special events.  I have enjoyed getting to know you Grace and hope that you will stay in close contact with us!
This one is on the way to you via snail mail!

Inside sentiment says "Life is special with friends like you".
You can check out Grace's beautiful Layers of Color projects in her gallery HERE and her blog HERE .
As a tribute to our friend Grace, some of the other designers have also designed some cards just for Grace.  I hope you will take a minute to check them out.

The Countdown has begun ...

Well the countdown to Thanksgiving has begun.  Do you have all your supplies/ingredients??  I'm ready ... I think.  I have to work monday-wednesday though.  So I want begin cooking til Thursday.  It's just my son, husband and myself here in Texas, so no rush.  It's my first thanksgiving without my daughter.  I will miss cooking with her.  But we still have so much to be thankful for!!

So I think a couple of thank you cards are appropriate!

Stamps : Vintage Roses and Royal Birds clear art stamp sets
DP - Melissa Frances from my October Shabby Kit from Pixie Dust Paperie.  You can actually purchase the DP seperate from the kit now that they have moved on to the November kit.
Glitter on the roses and the sticker label - Martha Stewart
Sentiment rub-on - Pebbles Inc.
Colorization - Copics RV00, RV11, G000, G21, G24.
Challenges
Card Patterns - sketch
Create: - Thank You card
Tuesday Throwdown - buttons and bows
ABC Design Blog - faux sewing
Stampin' Royalty - Patterned Paper

I stamped this thank you card using Garden Wall Frame cling art stamp.  It's compatible with the Spellbinders Labels 14 die!
I just love this image!

Lots to Do is looking for your favorite technique.

Stencil Technique with modeling paste
One of my favorite techniques right now is anything I do with my Layers of Color art stencils.  This particular stencil is Botanical Swirls.   For this card I used modeling paste.  So easy and adds so much dimension.  You want to use a thick cardstock or watercolor paper though or the paper may buckle a little.  After it drys just brush on some ink.
CES wants us to use lace, one of my favorites!
And I LOVE it when I can find it in colors.  Another option is to by beige or white and spray is with color, paint it, or use your copic markers!

Creative Card Crew - thank you

Did you know that Layers of Color is on Facebook now!  We would love to have you stop by:
HERE

Well if you haven't started planning, then get busy!
Have a blessed week!

MIXED MEDIA / ART JOURNAL

Good Afternoon papercrafters.  On a previous post I shared with you that I had been inspired by the "Inspiration Wednesday" video's by Donna Downey.   Every wednesday Donna explores different techniques and ways to apply color.  She does this in her "inspiration journal".  You can view a list of all of them on her blog HERE.  I am enjoying learning about different ways to apply color.

I have decided to display my "journal pages" on my 7 Gypsies Photo stand and will share these with you as I create them.

So for this page I started with water color paper.  Apply a water down yellow acrylic paint.  I used a green water color crayon around the edges.  I just colored it on and then added a little water with a wet paint brush, blending with the yellow.  I wanted it a little lighter in the middle so I used some white acrylic paint here and there til I got the look I wanted.  Next I used my Layers of Color Natural Flourish art stencil .  So easy to use.  I applied VersaMagic Tea Leaves with this in 2 of the corners.  My butterflies and the floral center in the large flower are from "Flutterescent" and "Flowering Gem" clear art stamp sets by Layers of Color.  I needed a center for the flower so I started digging through my stash and found this neglected pack of metal brads.  Just big enough to fit.  To tie everything in, I decided to add some gold around the edge of my frame (really old as well) and butterflies.  I think the ruffled ribbon works great for the stem and leaves.  The quote is from Inspirational Quotes.
The font style is totally inspired by Donna.  To finish it off, I used a charcoal pencil around the edges.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

Artist Trading Cards

Last week I walked out to my mailbox and became very excited to find a package that I knew was filled with ATC's from some of my cyber friends.
I couldn't wait to get in and open it up.  It's so much fun to receive little peices of art that other's have made.  Knowing that they put their own style and love into it.  So today I want to share them with you, and encourage you to participate in an ATC swap with your friends.

Artist Trading Card 2.5" x 3/5"

This first one is mine.  Not my usual color scheme.  Steppin' out of the box on this one! I used one of my new Donna Downey stamp sets.

I recently wrote a post about what they are and idea's on where to find supplies.  You can check it out HERE.  And all my ATC's HERE.

And this one is by our wonderful hostess Patti J.

Next up is Shirley Hotop.

This one is by Kim Sears.

This one is by Kelly Rae Cooper.

This one is by Maria Matter.

 This one is by Olga.

And this one by Chelsea Comer

Thank you so much for organizing and inviting me Patti!  I love them and I'm off to add them to my ATC binder!

I hope you are inspired to give these little mini peices of art a try.  If you are, I would love to see them!
