5 Star Ornament Tutorial

Good Morning Paper Crafters.  I have had so much fun creating projects with the Layers of Colors upcoming Christmas new release sets.  I ended up making several ornaments.  The first one is a 3-D 5 star ornament.  You make four folds and one cut.  I have included a photo tutorial that I hope will make it easy for you to create these as well.  If you do decide to create one, I'd love to see yours  ... just leave me a comment with a link.  I'm not sure when I will be posting them yet, but I have 4 more ornaments to share as well as a stocking gift card holder tutorial coming up ..... stay tuned!

AND ....  don't forget to join us Monday Sept 19th for the New Release Blog Hop where you will have the opportunity to win free stamps.  Want to see more new releases??  Check out the other LOC DT blogs ....  see the list and links in my side bar!

****  I did not create this template.  It is an origami technique that probably goes waaayyyyy back and who knows who created it.  I just want anyone to think I did.  I just wanted to create a tutorial to share with my readers ****

Project Details
Stamps : Angelic art stamp set
patterned paper
Spellbinders : Classic Scalloped Circles Small
Grand Calibur
Glitter Glue : Glitz Stickles Champagne

Create 5 star ornament with patterned paper.  Ink peaks and valleys.  Cut scalloped circle using Spellbinders Scalloped Circles Small and Grand Calibur.  Stamp angel, color, and trim.  Adhere to scalloped circle and then adhere to ornament center.   Apply stickles around edges of the star and around edges of scalloped circle.  Create a small hole at top and string with gold cording.

Tutorial

Fold #1
Start with a 6x6 piece of paper.  Fold it in half.

Fold #2
Fold "Corner A" over to "B".  "B" is 1" down from top.

This is how it should look after you have made the fold.

Fold #3

Fold #4
This is what it looks like after Fold #3.  The dashed line shows you where Fold #4 will be.  Make the fold to match up "D" with "E".

This is what it looks like after you do Fold #4

Cut
Make the cut as shown.

Trash the top half and begin unfolding your star.

You will have to reverse some of the fold lines.  I reversed my valley fold lines upward so I could ink them, then pushed them back down.  Ink the top folds as well.  I used patterned paper to create mine.  You will not be able to complete all the folds with thick cardstock.

Project Details
This is just one of the beautiful images for a set called Christmas Blessings!
And Laura's image made this one so easy to put together.  I rub on chalk in the background.  Added glue with my ZIG 2-way glue pen inside the dove and sprinkled with glitter.  So sorry the photo doesn't show the glitter better.  This is a glitter fine white glitter by Stampendous.  I also added glue and glitter to the chipboard flourish, around the edges of the image, and around the edges of the card as well (Maya Road).  The glue pen works just like a pen and is easy to control.  It comes in several sizes.

I LOVE flourishes and I'm on the look out for more chipboard ones, or dies where I can cut my own.  Let me know if you run across any.

The sleeper was colored with chalk, because I couldn't get the right shade of blue with my Copics.  I used the edge of an eraser to try and remove what I could of the chalk on the trim, then colored with Copic Y00.  The had was paper peiced.  The ducks were stamped once on the blue paper and then again on yellow cardstock.  I timmed the ducks, added some shading with using Y0000 tip to tip with E35.  I printed the Bingo card twice, colored the inside of the letters on the second one, cut the letters out and adhered them to the first bingo card.

The Warbler ... I love that stamp!

Good Morning!  It's going to be a fabulous day.  My friend Deb is coming over and we are going to spend the day working on techniques we learned from the She Art Class.  It is a fabulous online media class that has tons of background techniques in it.  And Christy is so funny, I really enjoyed the class.

We are also going to work on some submissions for some upcoming calls for Take Ten and Stampers Sampler.  Stampers Sampler has the cutest cupcake template to play along with this time.  We can make it any size and use it however we like.  In every issue they give us a differnet Tempting Template to create with.  You can check out all the previous Tempting Templates HERE.  They also have a call for stamping on special surfaces.  You can check out the details on the Sept. Calls page at the top of my blog.  We'd love to have you join us.  Shoot me an email and I'll send you a copy of the template.  If you play along please let me know when you post your project.

Take Ten just released their Autumn issue and they always have a sketch challenge for their call.  I haven't had time to post that one yet, but it's not due til Oct 15.  They also have a "ink it over" challenge.  This one and all of their regular challenges are always listed in the back of the issue.  If you don't have a copy and want to play along, let me know and I'll send you the sketch.

Remember the deadlines for both Take Ten and Stampers Sampler are the dates they have to be in their office.  No email submissions.

Today I'm sharing a card I made a while back using the Warbler cling art stamp by Layers of Color.  The large cling art stamps that Layers of Color sales are so easy to design with.  And no coloring makes it easy to whip up a card in no time.  I have created many cards with this one, 7 in all!  Probably my most used Layers of Color stamp, besides those bees and butterflies!

Update on my birds ...  I now have 3 feeders up outside my studio window and tons of birds visiting every day!  I enjoy it so much ...  and so does the cat, ha!  He's STILL trying to capture them through the window, along with the Lizards.  I set him up a bed at the end of the table so he can just lay there and watch.

You can check out all of my Warbler cards and other bird projects HERE.

Thanks for letting me share!  And I pray none of you are in the path of Irene.  Please let me know if you have prayer request and I will have the LOC DT pray for you.
big hugs,
Melisa

Artist Trading Card / Faith Art

Artist Trading Card 2.5" x 3.5"

Good Morning Paper Crafters.  I am the hostess this morning for Faith Art Friday over on the Layers of Color blog and I wanted to share with you as well.

Would you like to have the joy, peace, and happiness that only comes from God?? Sounds like a no brainer, right??   We all want joy, peace, and happiness, right??
As my children were growing up, one of the foundational principles that I reminded them of was that we were created by God to have a relationship with Him. I told them that if that relationship was good, then all of our other relationships would be as well. What a basic principle that if followed through on, all of us would have a more abundant life. But, we are humans, with faults. Some of us weaker than others. Some of us stumbling more than others. So I would like to take a moment today to remind all of us again of this basic principle which should govern our lives.

“Be joyful always; pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The basic foundation of our relationship with God comes first through our accepting the salvation that He has offered us through Jesus. After we have established that relationship, then the key to a successful walk with Him comes through bible study and prayer.
So basic, yet many of us stumble. I know many times in my life I have become distracted and allowed myself to stray from regular bible study and prayer. And I know there are others who have done so as well. So please be reminded and encouraged today … to pray without ceasing.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God” Phillipians 4:6

Pray regularly. Have a routine of daily prayer and bible study. But beyond that, be willing to engage in prayer anytime during the day. As soon as you are convicted of some sin, or feel the smallest amount of anxiety over a problem in your life. Pray prayers of thankfulness all day long, acknowledging all that is good in your life, and it will change your life! God wants us to be continually dependent on Him. Don’t save it up till your regular prayer time. Stop where ever you are, acknowledge Him, and pray. I have to tell you that I am a forgetful person, so if I didn’t stop and pray as things come to my mind, then there would be so many things I would miss praying about. I have even prayed walking through the parking lot of Wal-Mart before, after seeing a mother verbally abusing her child. Or driving down the road seeing someone that looks so unfortunate. I pray for my co-workers and for the supervisors that God has put over me. We shouldn’t save our prayers up for the bad times in our lives, but pray continually, including God in all aspects of our lives.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request …” Ephesians 6:18

I prayed before writing this to you. I know that there may be many of you that know this principle and have a wonderful prayer life. But for that one person out there who needs a reminder, I’m praying for you right now.
We would love to invite you to check out Faith Art Friday every week on the Layers of Color blog.
thanks for stopping by today and letting me share my heart with you!

Hi !

It's been great this year to see more and more companies coming out with 6x6 and 8x8 paper pads.  The 6x6 paper pads work perfectly for card makers. The patterns are smaller and I can get a variety for a lower price.  My Mind's Eye is one of my favorites!  I have been using there papers for years to scrapbook and I'm loving them even more now that they have the smaller paper pads.  What about you??  Do you love the smaller paper pads and who are some of your favorites??
My card today combines one of my favorite paper companies with one of my favorite stamp companies, Pink Persimmon.  Isn't this little garden so cute??  This set is appropriately named "Flower Garden".  It's all about the flowers in this set.  You get lots of different layering options, so you can create your own little unique garden.  And the cute little sentiment was created using their "Soda Pop Alpha" set.
I started out with the idea to just stamp directly onto the lined notebook paper.  I used Eclipse Masking tape to layer the images.  When using masking tape, you always want to stamp the image in the foreground first, mask it, and then stamp the background image.  So I stamped flower #1 (on the left), stamped it again on masking tape, cut out the mask and covered flower #1.  Then I stamped flower #2 (center) over the side of flower #1.  The original plan was to color the outside of the flowers and paper piece the insides.  But I couldn't get the aqua blue the correct shade, and decided to paper piece 2 of the outer parts of the flowers as well.  TMI !!
Why am I sharing this??  Well because I think I made it more complicated than it needed to be ...  who me???   If I had just decided to paper piece from the beginning, I would not have needed to mask.  I guess my point is ....  YOU can create this one a lot easier than I did.  But my designs often change midstream, as I work them.  It's fun when you can just stamp an image on a piece of patterned paper and use your Copics to color.  Which is exactly what I did for the stems/leaves and butterfly.  So if you have never tried it, I challenge you.  Leave that white cardstock behind and shake things up a little bit!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have time to get crafty today!
